Well we were busking recently…as we like to…it’s relaxing, fun, the atmosphere is great and people give you money…what more could you want?!

Anyway, we had this extremely friendly starting up photographer appear out of no where with the ambition to shoot us playing. It was fun! She was crazy nice and really pleasant to work with.

Actually, Stu and Chelsea were friends from way back at pre-school. Don’t ask how they remembered each other after not seeing each other for that long! But it’s true.

This is a very small sample of the awesome art she came up with while snapping away!

More soon. Thanks Chelsea!

A General Update

May 15th, 2008

Hello to all! Just letting you know that yes…we do still exist and we are still working! Latest updates are that we have finished the recording process of this EP/Demo we plan to release eventually. It’s still sitting on a harddrive somewhere waiting to be mixed/mastered. Hopefully this will be starting sometime early next week but we are still waiting for conformation.

Keep the beautiful artwork coming along. We’ve been really happy with some of the stuff you guys have submitted so far so thanks a heap!

Also, we’ve been bashing some live promotional material together lately so you know what that means…live shows! soon! umm…sometime anyway. Na, we will be playing a few live shows locally soon’ish so keep your eyes open.

“…and my eyes open!” As we finish this post, imagine Snow Patrol singing softly in the background…or not…

Peace X

Amusement!

March 10th, 2008

No actually, I’m not here to amuse. I’m here to tell you that you should make THIS your next destination. You’ll find out what it is if you click on the “this”. Yeah…but in other news, the recordings are sounding pretty smooth of late…we owe a very massive THANKYOU to Mr. Sam Spanswick for your amazing help and support to kick us off. It’s been great working with you so thanks again.

We’re hoping to have some more demo material ready and posted by next week (20 something of March) after it goes down to Sydney so Joe Hardy (brother of Mick Hardy) can adjust some levels, whack some things in to make it sound gooder and send it back sounding all pro and wicked.

In other news yet again, we will have some new photos up very soon, thanks to James Day who’ll be working with us this very Thursday.

And Again, thankyou for your great support and encouragement to us of late! You’ve all sent us in a positive direction with your feedback and help.

Love to all,
The Discards

Amazing Sounds Coming Together…

September 19th, 2007

…and it’s music that seems to be evolving into lots of very excitement!!! Yes, we were in the studio today and we were really excited to here some of our ideas coming together. Yeah for you to hear it, come and see us live. You missed last Friday so we’ll have to hold another one sometime. Keep tuned in to find out more.

We’ve been writing a lot of music lately. Most of it’s on our own…then we get together and the other guy seems to take over and put a bit of his influences in, which just makes our music sound so much cooler!

Yeah, it’s all coming to tracks for our upcoming EP or LP (or 12″, who knows :-), which will be released hopefully around the end of next year.

That’s the latest news for yas. Check the gig guide in the near future for more info on that crap.

Mick and Stu (and Kip…peace out).

New Demo Out Now!!!

August 5th, 2007

Yes, as you may know…the long awaited demo is out. Click here to check it out.

I’ll run you through how we did it so you can know we didn’t have the best of gear to do it:
Well, to record it we had two soundcraft M8’s joined together running the sp-dif of one into the sp-dif of my audigy soundcard. We then ran that into adobe audition where we did all the rough recordings that we would then put into pro tools to mix it and do some final vocals and other little bits. The mics we where using where not the best. For the kit, we used a selection of PG52’s and a PG56 (the shure drum mics), for drum overheads we used a couple of nt3’s (rode mics. nice range but a bit dull for cymbals) and a B5 for the hi-hat (err…I don’t think I’ll mention who makes that mic. not the nicest one in the world of mics). We used a combination of pick up lines and mics for the guitars and for vocals we used the Rode NT1A (not a bad mic but yeah, doesn’t take much dB. That’s why there’s all that distortion in places.).

So yeah, we didn’t have the best gear or equipment but yeah, for what we had, it was a good try. And they are demo’s after all so they don’t have to be perfect (what a relief!).
So please have a listen and tell us what you think.
